June Happenings

Breck's 18th Birthday

Breck just turned 18 and is finally an adult and in the Manwaring house that just means that your old enough to start working a manufacturing job.
Breck's cake of choice was red velvet with cream cheese frosting.
This is a picture of Breck being Breck.
A great blackmail picture of Brittney which I told her I wouldn't post (but few people look at our blog anyway).
Breck thinking hard about his perfect wish.
It takes a lot of air to blow out eighteen candles.
He did it in one breath, but I'm not sure which was more effective, the air or all the spit that came with it.

The best part about birthdays is reminiscing as a family.

King's Island - Morrow, Ohio

Breck surprised Kirsten for her birthday by taking her to King's Island.
Since I was the chauffeur I brought Merinda along to be my ride buddy.
I took a picture of the kids while they were in line just because this was one of the few times they actually had to stand in a line - I guess we just picked a good day to go. We all had a great time but decided we were a little too old to go on that many roller coaster rides in one day.

Youth Conference - Nauvoo, Illinois

Breck and Merinda went to Nauvoo, Illinois this year for Youth Conference.

Merinda and friends in front of the sun-stone.
Lovely pioneer women Breck, Joy Jenkins, and Ryleigh Bonk.
I love this picture with the Temple in the background.
I asked Merinda why no one was smiling, she said it's because they had to walk so much in the hot sun.

At least in this picture they are attempting to smile.
Joy's determined to make Breck smile, even if she has to do it herself.

This is much better!
Even though the bus ride ended up being about ten hours there and over ten hours back, the kids would tell you it was well worth the drive - everyone had a great time!

Camp Blanton - Harlan County, Kentucky

Merinda spent a week at Girls Camp again this year in Southeastern KY.
The outside of Merinda's cabin.
The inside of her cabin before she made her bed,

and after (much better!).

Merinda with her friends Lauren Allen and Lindsey Barber.
Merinda modeling the beautiful camp areas.
Ryleigh Bonk loving her job as YCL (Youth Camp Leader). She was over the first-years girls.
Lauren running through the grass.
I wish my Girls Camp had a pool...
and bathrooms that were this nice!
(the bathrooms were even nicer than my ones at home).
Merinda says it was one of their favorite places to hang out, especially since it was air conditioned.
The only down side to the picturesque camp is some of the leaders and girls had to sleep in tents due to lack of cabin space.

The beautiful tree canopy's kept the rain off the girls for most of the week.
View of the lake and boat dock.
The last night was Bishop's Night, so Brad enjoyed visiting with some of the other Bishops.
The leaders were wonderful, and not just because most of them were from Georgetown.
More of our faithful leaders.
Our very enthusiastic Youth Camp Leaders.
The Georgetown girls performing the camp song.
The Georgetown girls watching others perform the camp song.
The girls visiting with Brad and playing card games.
Merinda winning the card games.
Standing in line for our wonderful dinner of pot roast, potatoes, salad, and rolls.
Merinda told me no offence but she liked the camp food better than my cooking.
Merinda's year, or the third-year girls, posing for their picture.
The leaders trying to gather all the girls for a group picture.
The first-years wore green t-shirts, the second-year purple, the third-year blue, the fourth-year orange, the YCL's pink and red, and the leaders wore grey.
Merinda modeling the amphitheater where the Stake did a skit and spiritual thought before the Bishops spent time with their Wards. Brad gave a quick devotional right before it started to pour.
Despite driving home for three hours soaking wet, we had a wonderful evening with the girls at camp.
Merinda taking a quick selfie before it got too dark and wet.

Brad was voted most likely to be a bishop someday in our seminary class. We called that one!
