More June Happenings

We had a wonderful visit with my friend Ruthie and her husband in Stamping Ground, KY.
The family has gone through so much and so they finally followed their dream to move to the country about a year ago.  Even though building their log cabin was a nightmare, they are mostly settled in, and enjoying their little ranch.
The property is beautifully nestled among the rolling hills, and Ruthie is loving her Paso Fino (a Latin American horse that prances taking little steps) horses, which is the kind she used to ride as a child in Columbia.
And as you can Sorpresa (means surprise in English) is so sweet and really loves Ruthie too!
Brad talking with Larry in one of the pastures.
The perfect fire-pit
Roasting marshmallows for S'mores.

One of the garden boxes (I wish I had Ruthie's green-thumb)
The nice chicken-coop and barn that Ruthie and Larry made,
and an amazing sun-set in the distance!
Ruthie going to check the sprinklers
Between taking care of her older son (who was paralyzed while working) and the home, yard, and animals, Ruthie is a busy lady.
Which made Brad and me so very grateful that they took time our of their busy schedules to visit with us.
And to top things off, they have a teenage boy (who joined us for S'mores). He is super sweet, smart, AND talented (of course). Sometimes it's just nice to get away and visit with friends, especially after being cooped-up in your house for months!
And speaking of visiting with friends, we loved celebrating Veronica's birthday with her and the Holt family!
We gave Veronica some of her favorite snacks and treats (her husband and kids know her well!),
and invitation to a dinner theater.
Of course we had Brittney design the card (it's so nice to have talented children!).
The birthday cakes included caramel tres leches cake,
and white cream-filled cake.
Rex wanted to get Veronica her favorite which is an angel-food cake, and he thought the white cake was an angel-food cake, but after taking a bite, realized it was just a regular white cake.
Which was totally fine with me (I love Costco's white cake!) You can never go wrong with a cake from Costco. Plus, they don't break the bank like every other cake in the world!
Singing "Happy Birthday"
Rex telling an exciting story about something...
that I don't really remember because I was too distracted by the cakes and ice cream in front of my face!
I think Christina and George were also a little distracted!
Veronica picked-up on our non-verbal and pulled out the bowls (the biggest styrofoam bowls I have ever seen...which was awesome!)
Add a little Blue Bell ice cream...
and Christina's homemade hot fudge sauce, and you're living the birthday dream!
We all may have been a little silly, with all that sugar on board!
The cherry on top for Veronica was Wesley and Molly calling to wish her a Happy Birthday!
After a little more visiting,
we watched a video that Christina compiled with birthday wishes from Veronica's family and friends.
Rex's heart-felt sentiments...
made everyone bust a gut!
I'm not sure if it was Rex's super sad face, or just all the sugar running through our veins, but it especially hit Veronica's funny bone!
But it was a neat idea,
and nice tribute to a person who does so much.
Veronica was touched by everyone's comments,
and us Manwarings were just grateful to celebrate Veronica, one of our favorite people in the world!
