Utah and the Heelis's
Matt, Brei, and Family, Midway, Utah
For the 24th of July we spent the day with Matt, Brei, and family at their beautiful home in Midway, Utah.
View from front porch.
Front view of home.
Aunt Brei and boys (Tage, Bodie, Brock, and Ty).
Visiting in the Kitchen.
Aspen and Ty singing at the piano.
The cousins playing soccer in Matt's backyard.
Matt and Eric playing Horseshoes.
Waiting for another snake to come out of the ground and grab a mouse (which really happened right under Breck's feet while he was playing Horseshoes).
The kids having fun playing basketball,
and playing with the dog!
I had a blast hiking with Matt and seeing the beautiful sites from and around his house.
The hills were full of great hiking and biking trails.
View from the top of Matt's street.
View of Memorial Hill.
View of Midway and Heber Valley's.
View of the back of Timp.
While viewing all these things on our hike, Matt asked me if I had been to Memorial Hill and other places around town. When I said "no" we all decided to go and take a little tour of Midway.
Our first stop was the geothermal crater at the Homestead Resort. The crater is fed by a hot spring (common to the area) 1-2 miles in depth, and is built up by mineral rich water which dissolves limestone on route to the surface where it is deposited as travertine. This mineral dome covers approximately 8,000 years of history on the bottom of it!
It was awesome to be able to go inside the crater and feel the warm water (90-95 degrees year around). View looking up at the top of the crater.
People swim and go scuba-diving inside the crater. It is the only warm water scuba diving destination in the US, and attracts divers from across the country who want a convenient and comfortable place to get certified.
We then walked to the top of the crater. Here is the view looking down inside.
The view of the valley from on top of the crater was also a sight to see.
So we took advantage of the surrounding to snap some great pictures.
Merinda and Aspen even found some wildflowers on top to decorate their hair with.
There was also a little waterfall going from the top of the crater to the bottom.
In addition to the Crater, the Homestead Resort has many activities to do year-round. One of those activities is live summer concerts in the park.
Steep walk down the Crater.
Where the waterfall ends.
While standing on the Crater we spotted Memorial Hill and decided we should hurry and drive up it before the sun went down.
Memorial Hill is a memorial of all Veterans from Wasatch County who have served from the Revolutionary War to the present.
Another great place to view the valley's of Wasatch back.
Matt pointing out various known landmarks.
More panoramic views from the top.
Midway was settled by several Swiss families, and Swiss Days is a popular event each year. I loved seeing the Swiss architectural influence everywhere (even with gas stations and LDS church).
Sunset over Deer Creek Reservoir.
View of the farmlands,
And Wasatch Mountain Range.
After the wonderful tour of Matt's town, we went back to enjoy the portable fire-pit.
There is something about a fire (man-made or not) that is so relaxing and mesmerizing.
After dark, those of us that were left (with older children) headed back to town to watch the fireworks. It was a visit I will never forget! 'Thank You' Matt and Brei for such a wonderful day!!!
